My wife and I arrived at Just Joey guesthouse on the 22nd September. Situated in the historic centre of Stellenbosch it was very easy to find as there was a brown information signpost on the corner of Dorp and Helderberg streets indicating the way.
We were warmly welcomed by Patricia and booked into room no. 5. It is a well furnished and tastefully decorated double bed accommodation with a complete en-suite bathroom and separate shower. There were also a telephone, television, hairdryer, air-conditioning and a tea tray. A same day laundry service is also available.
The off-street parking on the premises is not secure, but as long as you do not leave any visible articles in the vehicle, it should be fine.
After we unpacked we decided to investigate the town and our surroundings. A five minute walk into Stellenbosch brings you to all the various restaurants and shops.
Across the road there is a wooden bridge spanning Eerste River. There is a footpath winding along with it and it was lovely walking along the Oak lined banks. A truly unique and peaceful setting.
Arriving back in the evenings we found the beds turned out and a nice welcome sweetie on the pillows.
The generous Cape breakfast from the menu is outstanding. On both mornings our breakfast came exactly as ordered. The portions are generous and the quality outstanding. It was a delight to experience the sunny dining room. Having a nice conversation with the fellow guests made it even more pleasant.
In the late afternoons/early evening we sat, when the rain allowed it, in the lovely garden. There is a very large Oak tree in the middle and a very nice retro-style swimming pool. We unfortunately could not enjoy it as the weather did not allow it.
Cindy-May went out of her way to make life as pleasant as possible. On the Friday afternoon I was working on my laptop in the dining room and she offered me coffee and rusks that were gladly accepted and enjoyed.
The only criticism was that the TV in this particular bedroom was on top of the built-in cupboard in the far corner, very close to the ceiling. It makes for difficult viewing and because of the acute angle, the remote does not function properly. Maybe a bracket fixed to a lower point on the wall would resolve this problem.
Otherwise, everything was more than expected and Just Joey can be recommended as a four star establishment that exceeds it’s rating.
It was a privilege to stay there and we thank Lifestyle magazine, Patricia and Cindy-May from just Joey for the opportunity to stay share a little bit of our lives with you.
